About the Friends

Our Mission:

The Friends of Mount Vernon Place is a volunteer, membership organization dedicated to the conservation and revitalization of the Mount Vernon Place parks to make them more civil public spaces. Our purpose is to enable residents and visitors to enjoy the wealth of natural beauty, historical significance, and cultural resources on Mount Vernon Place in Baltimore, Maryland.

FRIENDS OF MOUNT VERNON PLACE is the only membership group that focuses specifically on the parks. Neighborhood residents and representatives from the cultural institutions, organizations and businesses joined together in 1999 – launched by the Midtown Plan – and initiated by the Project for Public Spaces. We conversed. We dreamed. We questioned. We walked the four squares of Mount Vernon Place. An eager group, we recognized the strengths of "our front yard".

Together we committed ourselves to:

  • Advocate for the parks and develop marketing plans
  • Build coalitions with organizations, institutions, businesses and city agencies
  • Implement the Master Plan as a guide toward a 21st century vision of the parks
  • Raise funds to enhance the maintenance, use and improvements of the parks
  • Develop a Conservancy to protect the legacy of this unique Baltimore place.
